Wrest back your Online privacy control with ‘re:consent’ – News

data consentWith GDPR being implemented since mid-2018 & even the California privacy bill being passed, scores of Websites, etc are 1st seeking your permission to use your data. Good this, then. But how in god’s name will you ever remember how many Sites you have said ‘ok’ to? In the battle for Online privacy control, looks like the Sites are still winning, right?

That’s where this open source tool called ‘ re:consent’ comes handy. re:consent offers more control over your direct interaction with Websites, making it a smart addition to 3rd-party tracking protection powered by Cliqz.

This tool for Online privacy control shows you the permission for data collection you have (unwittingly) agreed to on Websites. Once you have that information, you can then change the settings easily & rectify the situation.

It is a fact that most other Internet users often unwittingly give their consent for data use without even knowing why or for what?

With re:consent you can easily change that. The open source tool shows you which data you share, so this tool is a big positive for Online transparency. It leads you directly to the often well hidden or deliberately confusing or unnecessarily complex privacy settings. So you can quickly & easily check and change your consent for data processing, e.g. location sharing, face recognition or cookie tracking.

But here’s a catch: re:consent works for Websites that adhere to the “Transparency & Consent Framework” of the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB), as well as Google & Facebook. It does not work for all Sites. The free transparency tool is integrated into the Cliqz Browser for Windows & Mac. It’s available as an extension for Google Chrome & Mozilla Firefox.

Tools like re:consent can come as a big help in the battle of Online privacy. We all, for example, know how Sites like Facebook, Google, etc  hide their better privacy options behind a wall of complexity. This tool makes settings visible & actionable. This tool is available for download on Github.
