Investigation into Cloud gaming & browsers to support UK tech & consumers – News

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), UK, has launched a market investigation into Cloud gaming & mobile browsers after receiving widespread support for its proposals 1st published in June.

It said in a press release that it had consulted on launching a market investigation alongside its Mobile Ecosystem Market Study report, which found that Apple & Google had an “effective duopoly on mobile ecosystems” that allowed them to exercise a stranglehold over operating systems, app stores & Web browsers on mobile devices.

CMA said responses to the consultation, which were published today, revealed substantial support for a fuller investigation into the way that Apple & Google dominated the mobile browser market & how Apple restricted Cloud gaming through its App Store. Many of those came from browser vendors, Web developers, & Cloud gaming service providers who alleged that the status quo was harming their businesses, holding back innovation, & adding unnecessary costs.
