‘Bark’ at people nearby & make new friends. Silly, right?

bark

Imagine a platform where you can communicate with other people in your locality irrespective of the language they speak. Well, the ‘Bark’ phone app is trying to pull off just that.

It’s an app that is trying to simplify communication between people by using the logic behind the barking of dogs. How? As its creators claim, you can just bark together just like dogs do on a playground. In the process, you end up making new friends without even saying anything other than, well, just bark.

Bark is somehow like Yo – communication using a ping- but differs in some aspects.  For example, it’s location–based & anonymous. This means you can communicate with anyone nearby if they have the app. All this without the need of knowing their specific name or contact like in a messenger. You will also get to choose your dog character that suits you best.

After creating an account, rather than identifying you with your name, it assigns you a sign-up number due to privacy protection e.g. Dog 1753. To use the app, push your bark to people nearby. If there any, they will hear you & can choose to bark back. From this, you can then instantly create relationships with them by sending short messages.  If you opt to view another users profile, you get to see their sign up no. & how far they are from you.

In addition, the app records the number of barks this dog has at you as well as when they first & last barked at you. Another feature is that it shows you a % meter of bark-energy left in you at a particular time & the number of barks at that point. It also allows you to toggle notifications on/off if you don’t want to receive any barks & vice versa.

The app is available for both Android & iOS users. DongHyeok Kim & Andrew Young-hwi Cho, who are co-founders of BourbonShake, develop this startup. It is located in Seoul, Korea Republic.
