YouTube will soon release a feature called ‘Reels, which is claimed to be it’s own variant of the ‘Stories’ format found these days in many major apps.
The new feature is designed for creators, not users, & it is still in the development stage, though.
Once ‘Reels’ launches, YouTube creators will be able to create their own Reels that don’t expire. They can be kept forever, & they can be organized into different events or projects.
But Reels & Stories of Snap fame are quite different, functionally, we’ve learnt, & not copycat versions.
As for viewers, they can thumb up or down Reels they see as they do regular videos, comment on the Reel posts in the Community tab.
YouTube did not say when Reels will arrive in beta, how long until it’s publicly available, or which creators will receive the format first.
