AI will re-define the humble PC: HP Inc. – Hardware

HP Inc. CEO Enrique Lores believes that artificial intelligence (AI) will transform the personal computer industry and is creating AI-enabled PCs that can build spreadsheets and analyze data in record time, which could hit the market as early as 2024.

Lores told CNBC in an interview that he sees an opportunity to create a new category of PCs that will drive significant refresh in the category, and believes that AI will enable the creation of new types of customer needs.

Lores thinks that AI-powered PCs could replace the need for analysts to spend hours poring over figures, as AI will be able to create spreadsheets, analyze data, and even dialogue about its findings in seconds. HP is set to benefit from the surge in demand for PCs, which has risen due to the increasing number of people working from home amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Lores believes the second half of the year will be much stronger than the first, as HP finishes up its channel inventory reduction and the end-of-year shopping season ramps up.
