Amazon is making Alexa Plus, a more conversational version of its voice assistant, available to Fire TV device owners in the US for free. The change applies to current Fire TV sticks, the Fire TV Cube and Ember smart TVs, and certain Panasonic and Hisense sets with Alexa Plus built in Fire TV Stick.
The practical change is that features previously behind a Prime or Alexa Plus subscription are now available to all compatible Fire TV users. Alexa Plus can give movie recommendations tied to mood, help jump to specific scenes and answer questions about what’s on screen movie recommendations, jump to specific scenes. It also links into smart-home controls so you can adjust lights, unlock doors or pull up camera feeds from the TV connect to your smart home devices.
That position, widening an AI assistant from a paid tier to a mass device surface, follows Amazon’s recent push to make its assistant a central part of living-room experiences and to expand Alexa capabilities across hardware. The Verge reports the company will automatically upgrade all eligible Fire TV owners to Alexa Plus, removing friction for adoption.
Amazon flags that it may add more devices and regions over time additional devices, which is the immediate forward marker: expect the company to widen the surface for Alexa Plus rather than roll back access. For users, the change lowers the barrier to a more conversational TV assistant; for anyone who manages a smart home, it moves the control point from phone and voice speaker to the television.
