Search engine blekko goes over to IBMWatson

Search engine blekko seems to have joined IBMWatson. We have used the word “seem” since it is unclear whether some parts of the blekko tech have gone over to IBM or whether the entire business. An announcement on the blekko Site said – The blekko technology and team have joined IBM Watson!

The announcement then takes readers to a post on IBM’s Smarter Planet blog. The search engine clearly is offline. This piece of info begins with details about IBM Watson and the era of cognitive computing. It then says: In our work to enhance the performance of cognitive computing systems, we’re constantly exploring new ways to identify,  understand and make use of information from both public and private sources.  Toward this end, we are excited about the acquisition of certain technology from Blekko, Inc, which closed this afternoon.  This will provide access to additional content that can be infused in Watson-based products and services delivered by IBM and its partners.

Blekko came out of stealth in 2010, & became quite popular because of its advanced Web-crawling, categorization and intelligent filtering technology. What’s New On The Net had reported its birth, too. Blekko’s technology crawled the Web continually, gathering information from the most highly relevant & most credible Web pages. It used classification techniques to create thousands of topical categories, making that data more useful & insightful.

The blog posts further said: Ever since Watson emerged more than four years ago as the first true cognitive computing system, IBM scientists, engineers and partners have been advancing the technology.  While hundreds of clients and partners across 75 countries are already using Watson today, Watson is continually getting smarter, ingesting more types of information and engaging with people in new ways.
