Remove unwanted objects from your photos on your phone with ‘TouchRemove’ – New app

Have you ever taken the perfect group pic only to realize that someone’s in it that you wish wouldn’t be there? Or that you have been ‘photo-bombed’? Now you can edit the culprit out easily on your phone, be it a person or an object, with this free Android app.

‘TouchRemove’ will quickly remove any annoying objects from your photos using an easy to use interface. You can mask out tourists, power lines & any objects that shouldn’t be in the photo. After the object gets zapped, the Content-aware algorithm in the app will automatically fill & paint the masked area.

The algorithm used by the app is based on PatchMatch, a variant of which is used by Photoshop. However, you don’t need the power of a PC or Mac & fancy photo editing software, since TouchRemove will do the magic for you on a lowly Android phone.

To do so, the algorithm was implemented using Renderscript, a high-performance parallel processing framework for running computationally intensive tasks on Android. This way, a “massive speed boost” is attained compared to Java.

This app is only available on Android & is very similar to the TouchRetouch iOS app. It’s single purpose, & does that 1 useful thing really well, although it also lets you clone as well as remove objects.

The app was developed by Zurich, Switzerland-based programmer, Rainer Follador, who is best known as the bioinformatician responsible for the site GeneWarrior.

He has also released other interesting Android apps, such as Sun Locator Lite & Sun Locator Pro to predict sun & moon position & path at specific locations during the course of a day, as well as the hilariousTrumpifyer app, which adds the “presidential hairpiece” to yourself & your friends in real-time.
