‘Pie’: a free app for your iPhone to create 360° videos & GIFs

pieWith this new iOS app you can put together some cool 360 videos & GIFs with your phone’s built-in camera. It’s easy to create Content & you can share it instantly with followers & friends on social media networks like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Messenger & Whatsapp.

360 (degree) videos are starting to become all the rage on social media outlets, especially if you want to show spaces where a lot of movement is going on all around, like sports, dance crowds, or just a bunch of people hanging out together doing silly things. They are panoramic recordings where you can look around in every direction since everything around an object’s field of view is recorded at the same time.

According to the San Francisco, California, USA-based startup’s founder Ceci Mourkogiannis, Pie was launched because watching 360 videos on smartphones, while being an awesome experience, the process of producing Content was far from being easy or fun. Shooting, editing & sharing 360 videos can be irksome & needed separate specialized 360 cameras.

Pie allows you to use your stock iPhone camera to take video “slices” by moving your phone in an arc. After you shoot, the app lets you add text & filters to your 360 video to give it that extra cool factor, & then you can easily share it on social media. An added bonus is that you can not only move around the panoramic view by tilting the phone, but speed things up, & you’re your perspective forward & backwards in time as well.

The app also supports 3rd party 360 cameras & provides added functionality if you use them. Currently, Pie supports the following cameras: Insta360 Nano, Ricoh Theta S, Samsung Gear 360, LG 360 Cam, Nikon KeyMission 360, Kodak PixPro SP360, LG 360 Cam & Nikon KeyMission 360.
