“Wisdom” aims to connect knowledge seekers with expert mentors – New app

Dayo Akinrinade founded “Wisdom” in an effort to democratize access to mentors. She felt that there were insufficient ways for people to find relevant information on certain topics. Even if there are classes & courses that could help, they are all fairly expensive, which put them out of many people’s reach. So she believed that a gap existed for an app that could connect mentors to people who wanted to learn from them.

Wisdom is an audio-only platform & allows users to ask experts questions & receive an informed response. The app is currently available in the US, UK, Australia & Canada, & can be downloaded from the Apple App Store here. Right now, the app is free for users who have questions to ask & they receive either a live or playback recording as an answer. A timer will ensure that no single person dominates a conversation & questions that can’t be answered straight away are queued.

Wisdom runs a deep-learning neural network which Akinrinade believes will assist users by suggesting relevant mentors. Mentors will earn via various monetization plans that the founder has in store, including “Mentorcoin” a virtual coin that can be exchanged for Amazon or Starbucks gift cards.

At launch the app received more than 10,000 sign ups in the first 48 hours, with a huge number of people applying to become mentors, which is obviously good for the app. The primary focuses of interest are parenting, fitness, dating, startups, mental health & beauty, all of which have a huge audience on traditional social media.

Mentors on the platform will be able to monetize their expertise & control how they interact with their audience. Currently, mentors can use a timer to restrict their engagement time from 1 minute to 60 minutes, with the default period set at 10 minutes. It all sounds very promising & this will definitely be an app to keep on your watchlist if it isn’t already available in your country.
