‘RapidAPI Marketplace’ lets you connect to open source APIs

rapidapi

APIs are what allows different software to communicate & connect to each other, & with the advent of millions of programs out there that already come with an API, a tool to make sense of them & let you find, test & connect to them can be a lifesaver. RapidAPI lets you track & manage all your API connections in 1 place as well as giving you real time metrics on their stability.

The RapidAPI Marketplace is a place that works by letting you browse APIs by category or by searching for a specific 1. The categories are: Translation, Music, Machine Learning, GEO, Messaging, Social… with a list of most used APIs showing prominently in the page. So at the time of writing this, the all-time ranking was: Slack, eBay, EventbriteAPI, MicrosoftFaceApi, Stripe, Lob, SpotifyPublicAPI, MailChimp…

Once you have located the API that interests you,you need to  click on the package page where you’ll see an overview of the API & its functions. You then click on the function you want to call & test the API to see what it responds to by filling something in the parameter field. Then, press the “Test Function” button & you’ll see the values that are returned.

You can easily integrate the code you’ve just browsed & tested into your app by picking the language you prefer (NodeJS, PHP, Python, cURL…) & just copy & paste your RapidAPI code into your favorite environment.

You can use RapidAPI for free by just signing up from the product page with your Google, Github or Facebook account. You’ll then be asked to select a back-end language platform from between NodeJS, PHP, Python, ObjC or Android, & to install the SDK in your server. The last step would be to add a bit of code in your app’s source to require the RapidAPI SDK. You also get access to an analytics dashboard & an accounts page where you’ll see your different APIs displayed.

The startup is based in Tel Aviv, Israel by Iddo Gino & Mickey Haslavsky in 2015 & has since been selected by the Silicon Valley Business Journal as one of the 10 hottest startups from the recent  ‘500 Startups’ demo day.
