Teenagers using smartphones for daily activities on the rise in the US: Pew – News

Young adults in the US are slowly but surely shifting toward mobile technology for their daily activities, according to a report by Pew Research Center.

Some are even forgoing traditional broadband at home in favor of their smartphone. The survey showed that of those polled, but about one-in-four (27%) do not use broadband at home.

37% of US adults said they mostly used a smartphone when accessing the Net. This share had nearly doubled since 2013, when the Center last asked this question. At that point, 19% of Americans named their smartphone as their primary device for going online.

The research found younger adults were especially likely to reach for their phones when going Online. Fully 58% of 18-to 29-year-olds said they mostly went Online through a smartphone, up from 41% in 2013. Still, this growth is evident across all age groups. For example, the share of adults aged 30 to 49 who said they mostly used a smartphone to go Online had nearly doubled – from 24% in 2013 to 47% today.
