Slew of important announcements from Facebook F8 conference

Facebook Live API
Big news emerged from the Facebook F8 developers conference on Tuesday. The host of announcements included FB’s decision to make publicly available its ‘Live API’. This, it said, was “a new way for developers & publishers to join forces to build immersive & interactive live video experiences on Facebook.”

So how will this help? With the ‘Live API’, media organizations can seamlessly incorporate FB Live into their existing broadcast setup & also create new ways to interact with their viewers. The Live API also makes it possible for device manufacturers to integrate Live directly into their latest video products.

Here are a few of the ways you can use the Live API:
1) Stream video from more than just your smartphone
The Live API lets you build video streams that mix multiple video & audio sources & introduce special effects. These can also include programmatic sources like games or screencasts.
2) Create new ways to interact with viewers

When you combine the ‘Live API’ with Facebook’s Graph API, you gain access to your live video’s comments, reactions, & mentions. You can use this information to reflect viewer engagement in real time.

Another important announcement that came out of the F8 was a new way of user connectivity – ‘Account Kit’. The latter gives people a choice to sign in with their phone number or email address without the need for a password, in your app or Website. It’s a complementary solution to Facebook Login & doesn’t require people to have a Facebook account.
