Security researchers from CyberMDX, acquired by Forescout last month, have found seven easily exploited vulnerabilities in the PTC Axeda IoT remote access tool. The vulnerabilities are collectively known as Access:7. CyberMDX’s research team is now part of Forescout’s threat intelligence and research team Vedere Labs.

The research team said platforms like this can be used with any embedded device, but have proved particularly popular in medical equipment. Other companies have used it to remotely manage ATMs, vending machines, barcode scanners, and some industrial equipment. There are hundreds of thousands of devices affected by the Access:7 vulnerabilities, according to the researchers. More than 2,000 of Forescout’s customers were found to be vulnerable.
