Screen, video collaboration with shared screen editing facilities – Startups

Jahanzeb Sherwani has created Screen, a video collaboration tool with more than a few unique & nifty tools under its hood. He was also the brains behind ScreenHero, which was acquired by Slack back in 2015, & the developer responsible for Slack Calls. Screen, his latest offering presents a tool that aims to correct all the issues he discovered while working on his two previous projects.

Screen, Jahanzeb says, allows teams who are working remotely to collaborate as if they were in the same room. It’s fast, at least 2x-5x faster than other screen sharing tools, & has a 30ms-50ms end-to-end latency, which is up to 3x faster than any of its competitors. Screen supports multi-person drawing, meaning that anyone in a group meeting can comment or draw on the join screen in realtime.

The system works well with Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS, Android, & the Web. You do need a desktop to initially share your screen, but thereafter a person can join from any browser, without needing to download anything or create login credentials. Screen supports ephemeral messaging – messages appear on the shared screen, but disappear after a few seconds. Voice & video calls are both options with Screen, & it integrates, seamlessly, with Google Calendar, so all meetings can be scheduled. Another feature is that Screen can be used from within Slack, so it’s perfect for taking your meetings to a completely higher level of collaboration.

“Screen sharing is key, but view-only is not enough. When working together, everyone needs to have a seat at the table, & view-only screen sharing is not enough. Sometimes, you want to be able to draw to indicate something on the shared screen. In some cases, you may also want to be able to click & type on it.”

– Jahanzeb

Screen is currently in beta mode, & its pricing structure has 3 levels, which includes a free plan, but to assist with the need for more remote team work due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the developers have vowed to keep their standard plan, which normally costs $10 per month, free as well.
