Reddit is one of the premier Websites around — particularly when it comes to hosting discussions & information on a variety of tending subjects.
Reddit has always supported categorized Content so that users can navigate between topics that interest them most. However, it’s always been somewhat difficult to follow certain Content on a broad scale. Due to these problems Reddit has introduced 2 new tools – ‘Events’ & ‘Collections’, which it hopes will alleviate & rectify users’ current dissatisfaction with the status quo.
Basically, Reddit’s new post types are aimed at users wanting to follow the latest happenings on Content such as TV shows, news, sports, musical shows & other ‘live’ events. Subreddits centered around these nature of events can now announce a Content thread with a specific start & end time, which Reddit believes will make it easier for users wanting to follow particular content. Also, the Collections aspect of posts will make it easier for consumers to ‘collect’ interesting content in one place, which should make the site far more navigable & sensible, particularly for new users.
Attracting new users, & keeping existing ones happy is obviously at the root of the new post types, people interested in a specific topics need to have a reason to visit the site on a repeated basis in order to keep the conversation going. With the new types, this will be an easier task, since moderators can, now, notify users about upcoming events & suggest topics of interest, all with a date & time pointer, which should see user numbers increasing as planned.
To understand the new system better, consider an example, such as the interest generated by the Game of Thrones TV series. With users wanting to discuss the latest episode & speculate on possible plot developments, this show stirs up a massive user base, which Reddit believe they can better take advantage of with being able to announce an ‘Event’ with a time synchronized to coincide with the latest episode. Moderators can notify users, so that they can arrive in sufficient numbers to create an interesting discussion.
