This is big, especially for the ‘Office’ types. Beginning later this year, all those using Microsoft Office 365 will be able to avail of automated transcription services for video & audio files in OneDrive & SharePoint using the same Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology available in Microsoft Stream. This is part of new features for Office 365.

Which means what? While viewing a video or listening to an audio file, a full transcript (improving both accessibility & search) will show directly in the viewer, which supports over 320 different file types. This will help you utilize users personal video & audio assets, as well as collaborate with others to produce your best work.

Microsoft’s Omar Shahine, Partner Director of Program Management for OneDrive & SharePoint said on the company blog that once an employee was ready to make a video broadly available across the organization, he/she could upload & publish it to Microsoft Stream. Users will get transcription services plus other AI driven capabilities, including in-video face detection & automatic captions, all on Microsoft Cloud.

Along with this Microsoft also announced a slew of other Office 365 features.

Searching audio, video, & images: Announced last September,  this feature, using native, secure AI, will determine where the photos were taken, recognize objects, & extract text in photos. This recognition & text extraction allows users to search for images as easily as the search for documents. An example: you could search a folder of scanned receipts for the receipt that mentions “sushi.” Video & audio files also become fully searchable thanks to the transcription services.

Intelligent sharing: Later this year, Office 365 users will have the option to easily share relevant Content with meeting attendees. For instance, if you just presented a PowerPoint presentation, you’ll be prompted to share it with the other attendees once the meeting is over. In the OneDrive mobile app, users will also be automatically prompted to share photos taken during the same meeting, perhaps of a whiteboard where you brainstormed new ideas with your colleagues—all based on your Outlook calendar. This type of real world intelligence will thus allow users to quickly keep everyone informed. This will be exclusively available when you store your Content in OneDrive & SharePoint.
