Linux is 30 years old – News

It has been thirty years since Linus Torvalds announced the world’s 1st free operating system. The humble beginnings of Linux are not unlike those of many of the greatest systems in history. Linux has evolved into a worldwide, free software platform that has largely resisted individual government & corporate interference.

Linux enhances the lives of billions of people around the world, running in everything from server computers to smartphones, to embedded devices.

Today, we celebrate the thirty-year anniversary of Linux, as well as the free & open-source software movement that has grown and developed along with the operating system, & toast Linus and the thing he started. Happy birthday Linux!
