To get started, & in keeping with the security-minded focus, you don’t need to introduce a phone number or personal info. Just come up with a username & start chatting. You can chat directly into the chatroom where all members share a conversation or if someone strikes your fancy, have one-on-one conversations with whomever you like. Besides the ability to post text, you can also share links & photos.
The chatrooms that you are shown on logon are sorted based on the number of people currently Online in each chatroom, so rooms with a 500/500 listing will be on top, but will have been maxed out, as 500 is the maximum number of people allowed in a particular room. Although location is disabled by default, again to have a bias towards security, turning it on will allow you to easily access nearby chatrooms, which will help you to seek out people that share local interests. A language filter can also be enabled to screen out the folks you’re not going to understand.
The company behind Koo is Cuckoo Systems, which claims that the system is 100% secure & uses standard strong encryption. They do not require, store or process user data, & claim that they’re not planning on monetizing user data. Also, they are not storing any user data on devices or servers.
