Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom & Mike Krieger have launched a News project.
The app is called “Artifact”, a name Systrom told Platformer’s Casey Newton was designed to evoke the project’s 3 tenants: “articles, facts & artificial intelligence.”
Artifact is a news aggregation app driven by a recommendation algorithm. You may find stories from Sites like The New York Times in the app’s core feed. The app will start customizing your feed as you read more items.
The 7 people on the Artifact team’s recommendation engine, according to Systrom, gives reading time a higher priority than clicks & comments. Both left- and right-leaning News sources will be featured on Artifact, he continued, but the business will not tolerate articles that “encourage falsehoods.”
As of now, Artifact is in beta & is by-invite only.
