Whether for business or for any other reason most people these days have more than one email accounts. Each of these accounts most times serve different but sometimes equally important purposes. Which is why the idea of being able to sign-in multiple account is good news for so many people. However, managing these multiple accounts might be a bit challenging too. So how to handle multiple Gmail accounts?

While Google’s “Multiple sign-in” option has eased things up a little bit, not everyone has quite gotten a hang of it yet. You might have noticed that even when you operate multiple Gmail accounts, there is always one of these accounts that is displayed each time you open Gmail on your browser or use the Gmail app. This means Google automatically chooses a default account for you among the ones you have signed in. Most times this isn’t a bother especially if this default account happens to be your most preferred account already.

But what happens when this is not the case & you wish to switch your default email to a specific one among your multiple accounts. How to handle multiple Gmail accounts, then? Good thing Google gives users the chance to decide which of their accounts they want to set as default.

The process is pretty simple. You can choose a default Gmail account among your many options by following these steps:

Step 1: Open Gmail in your browser

Step 2: If the account currently displayed isn’t your preferred default account, log out that account & every other account already signed in. To do this, click on the avatar icon located on the top right corner of your screen & select “sign-out” for each of them.

Step 3: The next step is to open the Gmail login page again & login the account you want to set as your default. Once this first account is logged in it is immediately recognized as your default account.

Step 4: To sign-in to another account, go to the avatar icon again & select it. In the drop box displayed you will see the “Add account” option. Click on this & a log in page will be displayed again. Here you can add as many of your alternate Gmail accounts as you want.

Note that this will only apply to the particular browser you are working on & will not apply to other browsers on your device. Which means it is possible to set different default accounts for each of your browsers if you so desire. Also, the same process applies if you are using the Gmail app. Also, bear in mind that when signed-in to your device with a default Gmail account, all of your apps preferences & activities on that device will be saved automatically on that default account.
