Here’s how to download Facebook videos to your device – e-Why, What & How

Downloading videos from Facebook isn’t as straight forward as it may sound. The app (Website) does not offer an option to download videos directly to users’ devices. Instead, users’ are encouraged to copy a link to the media & share the video in this manner.

However, there are multiple scenarios that come to mind where a user might need to save a video to a local device – old videos that were uploaded from an old device (users might not have retained a copy, but they want to upload it to a different app or Website), videos uploaded by family or friends that haven’t been shared via email (such as birthday parties, weddings or outings) – there could be any number of reasons.

If you need to download a video from FB, you 1st need to check if the permissions on the media are set to “Public”, so that you’ve got the right to download in the first place. If you want to download your own video from your FB account you can edit the permissions & set them to “Public” if you haven’t already done so.

Now you’re ready to download. Follow the steps below to know how to download Facebook videos:

  1. Click the “Share” arrow on the bottom left of the video’s display page
  2. Click “Copy Link” (wait until you see the notification that the link has been copied)
  3. Navigate to https://fdown.net/index.php?error=no_url
  4. Paste the copied link into the text box & click “download”
  5. A dropdown list of options is presented from which you can select the version of the video you want to download. (Such as “Full HD” & so forth)
  6. On new Apple devices & Android the video is downloaded immediately(find it under Downloads on Apple devices & on the Camera Roll of Android devices), but on older iPads & iPhones the video won’t download directly – a work around is to share the file to Google Drive first & then download to the Camera Roll (this works smoothly)
