For so long, many hobbyist & industrial applications would pair a Raspberry Pi with a microcontroller. The Raspberry Pi took care of the heavyweight computation, network access, & storage, while the microcontroller handled the analogue inputs & low-latency I/O.
That’s because the makers of the Pi were unable to figure out a way to make a compelling microcontroller-class product.
Finally, they have. Today, they have launched their 1st microcontroller-class product: Raspberry Pi Pico. Priced at just US $4, it is built on RP2040, a brand-new chip developed at Raspberry Pi.
