Here’s a list of Android apps that are a drain on your mobile battery
Online security firm AVG has released a 2nd “App Performance Report” for Q4, in which it has listed which apps across various categories are power/resource hungry, among other things. This is based on anonymous data from over a million AVG users, which was then compared to AVG’s 1st report.
Among the highly interesting trends that AVG found were:
- Spotify is now the No 2 resource consuming app overall
- Games such as Boom Beach & Deer Hunter 2014 appeared out of nowhere & secured the top spots in both usage & resource usage
- Selfie apps can be quite draining on a device’s battery. A new app called Candy Camera – Selfie Selfies – crept up to number 7 in the top battery hungry apps that run in the background
- Samsung’s Security Policy Update service named Samsung KNOX automatically checks for security updates & downloads these on auto. A number of users have publicly complained about not just the amount of notifications shown but also a 30-40% drop in battery life
Among the mobile games, the top 5 gaming apps that drained battery life were found to be:
- Candy Crush Soda Saga
- Candy Crush Saga
- Pet Rescue Saga
- Clash of Clans
- Farm Heroes Saga
The report is exhaustive & gives great insights not only into which apps & how they spoil your smartphone’s mojo but also to app download patterns & usage.
AVG’s recommendations for Android users looking to conserve battery life is go to ‘App Settings’ & disable notifications for apps that don’t require them.
