Growing up in the Internet age

This story in The Atlantic caught our eye. A very unusual article that talks about the piquant situation children find themselves in when they realize their parents & teachers or community groups have already posted Online about them growing up, including pictures.

Citing the case of a kid called Cara, the report talks of how she realized that parts of her life had already made its way Online, thanks to her parents.

While many kids may not yet have Instagram accounts themselves, their parents, schools, sports teams, & organizations have been curating an Online presence for them since birth. The shock of realizing that details about your life—or, in some cases, an entire narrative of it — have been shared Online without your consent or knowledge has become a pivotal experience in the lives of many young teens & tweens.

Here’s the piece.
