Google to enforce account & data deletion in Android apps for better user control – Digital lifestyle

Google has announced that it will soon require Android apps on the Play Store to allow users to easily delete their account & its associated data from both the app & the Web.

This policy will also mandate that developers wipe data for an account when users request to delete the account altogether. The aim of this move is to educate users about their control over their data & to foster trust in the Play Store & its apps, said Google.

Google’s policy also offers more flexibility to users, allowing them to delete specific data without erasing their entire account. The requirement will eliminate the need to reinstall an app in order to delete information.

The policy will be implemented in stages, with developers required to answer questions about data deletion by December 7, 2023. The changes will be visible in store listings in early 2024, & developers can request an extension until May 31, 2024.
