Google opens up its team remote access without VPN solution to all – News

Keeping in mind the work from home situation prevailing in most parts of the world because of the pandemic, Google has opened up its internal BeyondCorp Remote Access Cloud solution to the world.

Google said on its official blog that its staff has been using this “zero-trust approach” for almost a decade. The Cloud solution lets employees & extended workforce access internal Web apps from virtually any device, anywhere, without a traditional remote-access VPN. Google added that it planned to offer the same capability, control, & additional protections for virtually any application or resource a user needed, over the coming days.

The root problem lies with the remote-access VPNs organizations normally use. Traditional VPN infrastructure can be difficult for IT teams to deploy & manage for so many new users in a short period of time, and they’re struggling under the load.

From the user perspective, VPNs can be complex, especially for those who haven’t used one before. These problems are exacerbated when organizations try to roll out VPN access to their extended workforce of contractors, temporary employees, & partners. Also, VPNs can increase risk since they extend the organization’s network perimeter.

Workers can’t get to customer service systems, call center applications, software bug trackers, project management dashboards, employee portals, & many other Web apps that they can normally get to through a browser when they’re on the corporate network in an office. The open access to BeyondCorp will ease the problem of using VPNs for internal teams.
