Some of us always suspected this. Now, 2 independent security researchers have corroborated it. They claim to have uncovered a flaw in the manner in which many mobile applications store their data Online, a mistake, they believe, that leaves users’ personal information, including passwords, addresses, door codes & location data, vulnerable to hackers.
A team of German researchers from the Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology & Darmstadt University of Technology found 56 million items of unprotected data in the apps it studied, including games, social networks, messaging, medical & banking apps.
Another security researcher, Colombian Jheto Xekri, said he had also found the same flaw.
The problem, said both, was the way developers authenticated users when storing their data in Online databases.
