“Fathom” records, transcribes & summarizes Zoom video calls – Startups

Fathom, founded by Richard White in December 2021, records, transcribes, highlights and summarizes Zoom meetings.

The tool is easy to set up and is 100% free to use. Fathom works with Zoom to replace tedious, inefficient & ineffective note-taking during video calls and meetings.

At the click of a button, Fathom records the Zoom video call. There’s also a function on the app to preset the system to auto record all calls. To capture key elements, users can use the buttons on the app to perform various functions such as highlight, bookmark and tag events like “action items”.

Fathom guarantees that all recordings stored on the app are 100% private with end-to-end encryption, and that any data collected will never be sold to third parties. The app can be installed directly from Zoom. Users need to click on the “Apps” icon in Zoom & look for Fathom. Once they find the app, They simply need to click “Add”, confirm permissions and authorize the app.  After installing the app launches a “test call”, which acts as a guide to Fathom’s functionality.

The app easily allows users to track action events during meetings and mark off important sections with a timestamp. The app transcribes the entire recording after the call and stores it on the app. Users can also engage Fathom’s AI-powered summarizing function to create easy-to-digest snippets of events.

Fathom integrates seamlessly with a number of apps such as Slack, Google Docs, Notion and many others, which makes it easy for users to share & maintain copies of their meetings.

The app is available in 7 languages and offers a paid version, too for teams. The team’s version of the app allows team members to search through recording for keywords, such as the number of times customers mention the name of a competitor and to keep all relevant recordings, transcriptions and summaries in one easy-to-search place.
