‘Elementor’ is open source ‘live’ page builder for WordPress – #Startup

Wp site builder

WordPress (WP) is without doubt 1 of the world’s most popular Content Management System (CMS) & design environment for Websites.  Until now if you wanted a high end drag & drop front-end page builder for your WP Site you had a limited choice, & a costly one at that. Elementor is a plugin that’s being developed as an open source project that claims to be “blazing fast”. It can be used to design landing pages, home pages, contact, blog posts… without writing any code.

With this tool you can design all of your front-end features in real time without having to touch the backend or write code, & it works with any WordPress theme you may already be using & is compatible with a number of popular plugins, like Yoast, WooCommerce & WPML.

It has an intuitive & lightweight interface that includes the following features:

  • Instant drag & drop – Unlike many other design environments, there’s practically no lag after the drop part, & no jumps
  • Advanced design effects – High-end ‘designer touch’ effects, like background images at full width, parallax scroll, custom headers, advanced buttons & slide in forms
  • Responsive design – Eliminates the need to create different versions of pages for different size screens, like for mobiles or Tablets

It also has a number of features that set it apart from other page builders:

  • It’s compatible with any design element on a Web page, be it HTML, maps, blog posts, social icons, images, videos, forms, sliders, pricing tables, tabs, & more.
  • RTL & multi language support is integrated in elementor’s framework, so you get RTL typography & a translated panel out of the box.
  • You can choose from more than 400 icons & 600 Google fonts.
  • Elementor also comes with automatic color control, border & background settings to let you control what’s around your widgets, & a complete free package of widgets, like toggle boxes & Google maps.

Elementor is an open source GPL licensed project & you can check it out in its GitHub page. As such it allows developers the ability to customize & extend its functionality as source code is available & it allows developers the freedom to avoid being chained to a particular theme.

Yoni Luksenberg is CEO of the startup behind Elementor, which is based in Israel. The company plans on keeping the current & some planned new functionality available in the product as free & open source under the current GPL license. They also plan on adding some, as yet undefined, premium features in the future that may stray from that model.
