DropBox launches two AI-powered services – AI

Dropbox has announced the launch of two AI-powered services.

The first is a neat feature that will become commonplace in most tools in this category over time. The second is a universal search engine “Dash” that can access files in Dropbox and across the entire Web.

The Dash app comes in two parts: a desktop app and a browser extension. The desktop app, which can be invoked from anywhere with the CMD-E keyboard shortcut, acts as a universal search for everything on a device and in all connected apps. The browser extension offers the same search but also turns a new tab page into a curated list of files. The concept of folders has so much history that it’s getting in the way, so Dropbox is making a conscious break with that paradigm as it leans into all things AI.

The launch of the two AI-powered services is a major step forward for Dropbox. The universal search engine that can access files in Dropbox and across the entire Web is particularly ambitious and interesting.
