News agency Reuters has reported that “iQiyi”, China’s own version of OTT “Netflix”, will push into the North American & Japanese markets as part of its expansion plans.
iQiyi hit a milestone of 100 million paying subscribers this month, Reuters said, quoting a senior executive.
The company is competing with Tencent’s video Site & Alibaba-backed Youku Tudou in China. Other than North America & Japan, it also wants to distribute more of its self-produced content to Singapore & South Korea, which has a sizeable chunk of Chinese-language population.
