Canva launches developers platform – News

Visual communication platform Canva has launched its Canva Developers Platform, which includes a set of APIs and development tools to connect with its 135 million monthly active users.

The move aims to encourage the creation of innovative products by establishing a $50m Canva Developers Innovation Fund, which will offer financial grants and guidance to help developers, particularly those underrepresented in the global market, to transform app concepts into tangible products.

The Canva Apps SDK, which includes documentation, sample apps and UI guides, grants developers access to resources, including the new Canva Apps APIs. These APIs, which include Asset, Design, Data, Fetch and User, enable the creation of a range of applications, from AI-powered tools to workflow integrations and design enhancements. Canva Apps will allow customers to retrieve and add content, edit designs, authenticate users, export and publish their work and provide data.

The company also revealed a collection of over 20 apps at the Canva Extend developer conference in San Francisco, some of which are already available and others scheduled for imminent release. These apps bolster Canva’s capabilities, allowing users to publish magazines via the publishing platform Issuu, generate audio using Soundraw’s AI technology and create AI-generated avatars with D-ID.
