Bobby secures Google Drive documents – Startups

Google Drive has over a billion users. Google’s suite of tools includes Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets & Google Draw among others. The salient feature is that most of these products are used for commercial purposes – for work. Journalists, freelancers, bloggers, small businesses & large businesses of all descriptions use these products daily & rely on Google’s Cloud to keep documents safe.

The thing is that valuable documents stored on the Cloud are vulnerable. The Cloud is subject to, among other things, data breaches, compromised logins, ransomware, viruses, & accidental deletions. Bobby is a productivity app created by Terence Pua that acts as “tray” to convert & back up Google Docs’ documents to desktop or local storage, such as usb drive & network drive in formats like pdf, docx & others.

Bobby is free to use for Google Docs documents & is available to download for Windows & Mac. Support for Linux is in the pipeline for the near future, too. To back up files from Google Sheets, Slides & Draw, this startup charges a reasonable fee per month.

On the free plan users need to take a single click action to back up their files, whereas on the paid plan, backup is automatic & continuous. Which means for a fee, Google app users can be rest assured that their valuable files are protected, indefinitely.

Currently, Bobby doesn’t offer support for Google Photos backup, but they are considering adding this facility, which will bring millions of potential users to the Bobby app.

Bobby’s feature list is rather impressive, & includes:

  1. Google Docs backup to a users’ local system.
  2. Conversion of Docs to .pdf, .docx, .xlsx & other file formats
  3. Support for USB, external drive & NAS/network drive.
  4. Preservation of directories.
  5. Backup preview
  6. Support for shared drives & ‘Shared With Me’ folders.

Interested parties can download the app here.
