That’s right. After building 8 smartphones & an OS, OnePlus has announced it would now be building a smart TV.
Announcing this on its Website, CEO Pete said the last 5 years “have also been a constant exploration of how technology & innovation can improve the human experience through simplicity, efficiency, & intelligent functionality.”
Over the next five years, developments in 5G and Artificial Intelligence will offer an even greater canvas to brainstorm how to improve life as we know it. In continuing our relentless exploration of improving the world around us, we would like to take the first step in building a connected human experience. Allow me to explain.
The OnePlus CEO said his company wanted to bring the home environment to the next level of intelligent connectivity. For this, he said, they were “building a new product of OnePlus’ premium flagship design, image quality & audio experience to more seamlessly connect the home.” It’s called OnePlus TV.
The CEO said since 2013, OnePlus had focused on building the “best smartphone possible”. In the process, the team & community had learned a tremendous amount about software, hardware, design, product development, & delivering on the best possible user experience, based on which it would now build OnePlus TV.
OnePlus today has 5 million community members from 196 countries & regions from around the world.
Oh, did we tell you this? OnePlus has asked community members to suggest a name for its smart TV.
Here’s what the company said:
- Enter your proposed name for our TV product [HERE] before October 17. Please only enter one name per form submission. On October 31st, the OnePlus team will choose our favorite 10 suggestions. Each of the 10 finalists will receive a pair of OnePlus Bullets Wireless.
- 10 finalists will also be chosen from oneplus.cn. From the combined 20 finalists, 1 grand-prize winner will be chosen by the OnePlus team. Winner will be announced before December 17th, 2018.
- This will become the official name of the OnePlus TV. If a winning name is selected from these forums, the user who suggested the winning name will receive the following:
- One (1) our first OnePlus TV product*.
- One (1) trip (round-trip airfare and hotel) to our first OnePlus TV launch event.
