Bleep chat app introduces secure image sharing feature

BitTorrent’s “highly secure” messaging app Bleep has introduced image sharing feature.

According to a post on its official blog,  users can now send & receive photos on Android, & receive-only on Windows & Mac. Bleep users can also share a single photo or a collection of photos straight from one device to another, & it will show up within the chat window.

For those of our readers who are not aware of what exactly is Bleep, this mobile-based communication platform is highly encrypted, so much so that not even the team of Bleep is able to read the messages being exchanged between members. For them, it’s all just a bleep, hence the name. The app follows BitTorrent’s core principles – uphold user privacy, & user control, keep the Web free, open, & accessible to all. There are scores of encrypted messaging apps out there, some of which have been profiled by What’s New On The Net, but Bleep claims that messages on its app are fully encrypted – end-to-end. The need for such messaging app had become even more urgent following revelations of government snooping by Snowden.

Bleep chat app is ideal for:

  • Friends keeping conversations amongst friends
  • Journalists communicating with sources without exposing their identity or their content
  • Members of the diplomatic corps sharing private dispatches
  • Businesses keeping communications confidential, safe from leaks, and safe from industrial espionage

Along with allowing the transmission of secure photos in the chat, Bleep also announced stability & reliability improvements, particularly with data & battery usage on Android devices. “If you are an Android user, you can now use Bleep on cellular data comfortably,” it said.

On the occasion, the BiTorrent Bleep team has also revealed that it was in the process of laying down “important groundwork” for the beta of the app, adding unique features not found in Bleep alpha product.
