Apple plans to significantly increase its production in India over the next four to five years, aiming to reach around US $40 billion.
In the last fiscal year, the company’s production in India exceeded $7 billion, according to a news report put out by PTI. The expansion in production will include the manufacturing of iPhones and AirPods, but Apple currently has no immediate plans to produce iPads or laptops in India.
The company’s focus at the moment is to scale up its existing production levels rather than participating in IT hardware PLI. Despite a slight decline in iPhone sales and the wearable, home, and accessories segment in the first nine months of the current fiscal year, Apple remains the largest exporter of mobile phones from India. The launch of the iPhone 15 series saw a 100% growth compared to the iPhone 14 series on the release day.
