Apple “open sources” parts of HomeKit development – News

We had reported yesterday that Apple, Google & other “big guns” have decided to make a joint effort in developing a common, new standard for smart homes devices.

Apple has now said in order to “accelerate the development of the new universal standard”, Apple wil open-sourcing portions of its HomeKit Accessory Development Kit (ADK).

HomeKit is Apple’s most extensive, powerful & secure smart home platform available on more than a billion iOS & iPadOS devices. HomeKit & the Home app use innovative privacy technologies & techniques to help minimize the amount of data anyone can access as well as powerful security features that protect personal information.

Starting today, developers can use the HomeKit Open Source ADK to prototype non-commercial smart home accessories. Apple will also contribute its HomeKit Accessory Protocol to the working group.
