Yes, you heard right. iOS users can now request to transfer a copy of their photos & videos from iCloud Photos to Google Photos or any other participating service.
Apple announced on its official blog that transferring photos & videos from iCloud Photos will not remove or alter the Content users store with Apple. The transfer process takes between 3&7 days.
This service is initially available to customers in Australia, Canada, the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, & the US for transfers to Google Photos.
Some data & formats available in iCloud Photos — such as Smart Albums, Live Photos, or some RAW files — may not be available when you transfer your Content to another service.
Before you request to transfer photos and video
Before you request to transfer your iCloud Photos Content, make sure:
- You’re using iCloud Photos to store photos & videos with Apple.
- Your Apple ID uses two-factor authentication.
- You have a Google account to use Google Photos.
- Your Google account has enough storage available to complete the transfer.
