App Annie data underlines India’s market-leading status in mobile – News

New data from App Annie reveals India to be the 2nd largest market in the world for app downloads to date in 2021. This is building on an impressive 2020, in which Indian consumers installed 24 billion apps – up 28% year on year.

The growth is reflected in app engagement too. 2020 was the year in which Indian consumers (on average) spent more than 4 hours a day in apps for the 1st time. In total, that added up to a collective 651 billion hours for the year.

Indeed, at 4.6 hours on average per day per person in Q3 2021, India now ranks among the most mobile-first consumers in the world.

Mobile gaming was what was driving this growth, said the new report.  In H1 2021 Indian players installed 4.8 billion games. That’s one for every 5 globally.
