Amazon introduces new long-form speaking style for Alexa – AI

Amazon today said it had introduced 3 capabilities to help create a more “natural & intuitive” voice experience for customers:

  • Long-Form Speaking Style (US only): Starting today, you can use a new long-form Alexa speaking style to create a more natural & engaging experience for Content such as news articles or blogs.
  • Extending Speaking Styles to Select Amazon Polly Voices: Also extending the availability of speaking styles to select Amazon Polly voices. Amazon Polly is the AWS AI service that lets you create life-like speech in 29 languages. You can use the news & conversational speaking styles for Amazon Polly Matthew & Amazon Polly Joanna voices, & the news speaking style in the US Spanish Amazon Polly voice, Lupe.
  • More Amazon Polly Voices for Skills: You can also use 10 additional Amazon Polly voices to enrich your skills.

Use the New Long-Form Speaking Style

Amazon said the new long-form speaking style can help customers engage with large amounts of Content or information such as articles, podcasts & other longer form Content. For example, you can use this speaking style for customers who want to have the Content on a Web page read to them or listen to a storytelling section in a game.

Powered by a deep-learning text-to-speech model, the long-form speaking style enables Alexa to speak with more natural pauses while going from one paragraph to the next or even from one dialog to another between different characters.
