The present-day work scene is all set to undergo a paradigm shift, courtesy Artificial Intelligence (AI) which is poised to be the next technological revolution to change the way we work, revealed a study report released today.

The technology may still be in its early stages, but the demand for AI jobs & talent is gaining momentum, it said.

According to the research by jobs Site ‘Indeed.com’, job offers for AI-related roles on its Site almost doubled between June 2015 and June 2018. Also, the percent of searches using “AI” or “Machine Learning” increased by 182 per cent.

The study identified jobs most closely tied to AI, where they were located and the pay offered.

Here’s a bird’s eye-view of the findings:

Top jobs with AI skills

Top of the list was Machine Learning engineer, followed by data scientist. Computer vision engineers came in at number three.

Since the traditional jobs, like that of a statistician, made the list too, it drives home the point that not only is AI transforming old jobs, but it is also generating new ones.

Difficulty filling jobs

The study also looked at the difficulty level in filling of the listed jobs in a period of 60 days. In this category, computer scientist came in at number 6 as the hardest job to fill (with almost 64 per cent of computer scientist jobs open after 60 days), while statistician at number 8 was the easiest AI skills job to fill.

Top paying AI jobs

Here, Director of Analytics topped with an average salary of US $140,837. Principal Scientist was a close second (US $138,271 average annual salary) and machine learning engineer placed third (US$134,449 average annual salary).

All of the jobs listed were well above the median annual salary for someone with a bachelor’s degree in the US ($60,996); in fact, the top six are all more than double this figure, the report stated.

Top cities for AI jobs

Silicon Valley was dethroned by, well, New York in topping the list with 11.6 per cent of top AI jobs located there owing to the highest concentration of data engineer, data scientist and director of analytics job postings of any metro area in the US. San Francisco, however, comes in at number two (9.6 per cent of top AI jobs) and San Jose at number three (9.2 per cent of top AI jobs).
