OpenAI, a platform for the propagation of the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in day-to-day life, has created “Musenet“, a deep neural network that can generate 4-minute musical compositions with 10 different instruments. Not only that, it can combine styles from country to Mozart to the Beatles, said an announcement on its Website.

What is even more fascinating is that MuseNet, according to its developers, was never explicitly programmed “with their understanding of music”. Instead, this AI powered tool discovered patterns of harmony, rhythm, & style by learning to predict the next token in hundreds of thousands of MIDI files.

MuseNet uses the same general-purpose unsupervised technology as GPT-2, a large-scale transformer model trained to predict the next token in a sequence, whether audio or text.

OpenAI’s stipulated mission is to ensure that artificial general intelligence (AGI) benefits all of humanity.
