A ‘Horcrux’ of your emails? App offers easy backup – #Startups

Did you ever wish to have a backup for your ever burgeoning email accounts, otherwise susceptible to server outages or hacking? In our modern environment, any loss of digital communication could spell disaster. ‘Horcrux’ claims to facilitate your email account backup. It uses the IMAP model for email communication & works with most email service providers such as Gmail, iCloud, Outlook, Exchange & so forth.

Horcrux’s IMAP system for email, physically maintains a copy of the mail on an independent server, while sending headers & lead text only to the device. The POP3 protocol, by contrast, sends out a header, but once the email is downloaded, the copy on server is deleted.

A ‘snapshot’ of your mail is taken by the app & this copy of your email is then stored on your hard drive. Therefore, if you delete an email by accident, the protocol allows you to restore it in 1 easy click.

Horcrux offers easy migration service if you need to move from one service provider to another. Its services come in handy if you are using 3rd party email services where your account could be blocked, deleted or otherwise restricted without warning.

The app supports the addition of multiple accounts, so there’s no need to use another backup system. Moreover, users also have control over setting backup frequency.

Horcrux runs in the background on device & saves your mail to hard drive. It’s unobtrusive & easy to setup. You just need to select the account type & enter login details.

Once connected, Horcrux prompts for factors of selection such as :

Horcrux offers structured & labelled navigation. Snapshots on device are accessible from your account. The user can select & open the snapshot from the menu & open, delete or ‘undelete’ it.

The app offers a 30 day free trial & is available on the Apple Mac Store.
