That’s right. Google has launched ‘Family Link’ in beta, a tool that seeks to help parents keep some measure of control on their below-maturity children.
Family Link will help families (which includes kids) navigate the world of technology together. Announcing the launch on its official blog, Google’s VP, Engineering Pavni Diwanji said: When your child is ready for their first Android device, Family Link lets you create a Google Account for them, which is like your own account, and also helps you set certain digital ground rules that work for your family – like managing the apps your kid can use, keeping an eye on screen time, and setting a bedtime on your kid’s device.
Here’s how it works: 1st, your kid will need a new device that runs Android Nougat (7.0) or higher. Then, download the Family Link onto your device & create a Google Account for him/her through the app. Finally, sign them into their new device.
Parents can use Family Link to:
- Approve or disapprove apps kids want to download from Google Play Store
- See how much time children are spending on each app
- Remotely lock your child’s device, if need be
