Switch between apps in your Mac with ‘TouchSwitcher’

Most of MacBook Pro users are already more adept at using Command + Tab, Dock & Spotlight & Mission control. There has been a lot of Mac’s Touch Bar apps which haven’t worked as the users wanted. However, with this new tool, we could finally have the 1st useful Touch Bar app. ‘TouchSwitcher’ helps you add app switching to your MacBook Pro.

How TouchSwitcher works

With the TouchSwitcher, you simply manage your apps by tapping the Touch Bar. The Touch Bar is strategically placed below your screen & is part of the keyboard. You tap once to show the app list & again to pick the particular app. It arranges the apps in a manner that the most recent apps are next to the button. Therefore, unlike using the Command+ Tab that requires additional presses as well as moving your hand to the trackpad using the tool to switch to a particular app is easier. However, it is important to point out that when switching between recent apps using Cmd+ Tab seems to be faster.

Using the tool is a bit straight as it has only a single non-system control on the right strip.

Here’s how to use the tool:

i) You can swipe it left to show “not running Dock apps”. Also, to show the TouchSwitcher icon as well as the app list you can simply use the option+9 shortcut

ii) If you want to hide the tool’s icon, just pull & hold its icon on the TouchBar

iii) Finally, to quit TouchSwitcher or change the shortcut you can use the gear icon in the app list

Some users have indicated that sometimes a blank button is left by TouchSwitcher when you remove the tool. To rectify this, you should use Activity Monitor to quit the Control Strip system app.

TouchSwitcher was developed under Hazeover, headquartered in Washington, USA. Hazeover is also the maker of Distraction Dimmer, which is a Mac App that helps you get rid of distractions in your current task.
