Search & summarize tags on Google docs with this add-on – e-What, Why & How

Google Docs has been around for more than 10 years now. It’s a word processor available on Web apps & mobile apps for both iOS & Android. The tool helps you to easily view, write & edit documents with their smart editing & styling tools. & now there’s a senior UI designer Chris Rumble in Mavenlink who has updated a Google Doc add-on on Chrome.

The Google Docs Chrome add-on helps you tag, search & summarize your document on Chrome. With the add-on, you can highlight any text & tag it, allowing for easy searching. In addition, Google Docs add-on lets you easily create summary documents across all docs on your drive. The add-on comes in handy to users such as students & researchers who like to optimize organization & access their work easily

How to add tags, search & summarize them using Google Docs add-on

To add a tag on an excerpt in your document, you need first to highlight the text you intend to tag. After this, you can right-click on the highlighted text to make a comment. The tag is added in the comment box that appears. Ensure that you add it in the square brackets.

After adding your tag in the document, you can now start the Google Docs add-on by clicking on the menu item Add-on. Then select Search & Summarize snippets option & click on start. Secondly, choose a folder & start typing. The add-on will autocomplete for you a list of available tags. Google Docs will bring up a result tab showing your highlights, their corresponding tags as well as links to the documents where the tags are.

With this add-on after creating your tags, highlights & document links it allows you to create a summary document for all this. It will need you to click on the summarize tab & select a parent & subfolder. This will add a summary spreadsheet to the root of the folder you had selected.
