With this free app you can keep your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch or Android device, safe & secure, protecting your device from data loss, theft & other threats that may put your personal info at risk.
Called ‘Lookout Security & Antivirus’, this app goes beyond the stock Apple ‘Find My iPhone’ & similar apps for Android by adding a wealth of features (we’ll talk about the Android app later, as it’s a bit different). 1st of all, unlike the Apple app, you can log in from any Internet connected computer, Tablet or phone to locate your device on a map. You can then sound an alarm to locate the device if you think it’s near you, even if it’s silenced. The feature, ‘Locate & Scream’, allows the mapping of your device location. This will make it sound an alarm – even when it is on silent. Another feature, ‘Signal Flare’, automatically saves your phone’s location when the battery is low.
Other features include:
- You can display a customized message on the device’s screen, including contact details to help get it back quickly.
- Your device can be accessed from any Web browser in case you don’t have another phone at hand.
- Backed up contacts can be accessed & transferred to another device.
- Multiple devices can be managed from a single account.
- The device’s location is automatically saved before the battery runs down.
- You’re notified about insecure outdated versions of iOS.
- If you’re using an Apple Watch you can monitor the distance to your iPhone & get notified if they’re about to lose connection.
These features all come with the free version of the app, which can be downloaded from the Apple App Store here. If you’re willing to shell out US$ 29.99/year (or $2.99/month) for the Premium version of the app, you also get automated photo backups on Lookout.com & automated theft alerts via email with the location of your device when behavior is detected that may indicate it has been stolen.

It also offers enterprise products & services, especially aimed at enabling BYOD, ensure compliance & defeat advanced mobile threats. Like we mentioned earlier, a similar app to Lookout for Apple is also offered for the Android platform with a slightly different feature set, & which also adds an antivirus feature.
