The ingenious hackers had created a fake version of Apple’s software for building iOS apps, which they had then persuaded developers to download. Thus, such apps could steal data about the users & send it to the hackers.
The infected applications includes Tencent’s hugely popular WeChat app, a music downloading app & an Uber-like car hailing app.
An Apple spokeswoman said apps created using the counterfeit software, XcodeGhost, had now been removed from the App Store.
