More verification options by Twitter for 2-factor authentication

Twitter has announced 1 more addition to its 2-factor authentication for new logins on its service. It will now allow you to use 3rd party apps for this kinda authentication as an alternative to SMS.

Twitter announced this on its blog. SMS, or text message based codes, is generally considered inferior in terms of security to 3rd-party apps that support 2-factor authentication.

After you enable this feature, you will need both your password and your mobile phone to log in to your account. When you log in to twitter.com, Twitter for iOS, Twitter for Android, or mobile.twitter.com, you will receive a six-digit login code to enter. By default, this will be sent via SMS text message (see our list of supported carriers), or you can use a third party app for verification (see details below).
